Some of the illustrations for a new story for African Storybook.
Abel's mother visits her friend the doctor:
She wants Abel to bring his sister's doll to be fixed, as he broke it. In payment, the doctor should tell him to wash her car.
His mother hopes that this will teach him how to behave.
She explains to Abel that he must take the doll to the doctor to be fixed.
It's a very big and very dirty car.

A story I illustrated last year for African Storybook. I wasn't entirely happy with the finished drawings, but since then I've learnt a lot more about digital colouring. So I reworked them with my new Krita skills.*
One day the sun told everyone she was going to visit her sister Moon.
The clouds were very sad. The mountains put on their white scarves.
The trees were angry and threw their leaves about.
The clouds were even sadder.
They started crying.
Soon there was water everywhere.
Sun's holiday was over and she kissed her sister goodbye.
Everyone was very happy to see her again.
The trees put out new leaves.
The clouds ran away to play.
New plants sprung up.
Everyone was happy.
(I'm afraid I've paraphrased as I can't find the original text.)
*Krita is a free painting program, and so much fun.

A new story for the African Storybook project, set in Ethiopia.
The final images have to work in greyscale as well as colour. Rather than constantly switching to greyscale to check, I shaded the pencil drawing roughly in tones of grey, then colourised it.
Colours tweaked and shadows added.
A few highlights added.
Fana with some of her animals.

I've never been completely happy with the drawing I did for the Paper Planes show a few years ago, so I fixed it. Old version of Die Heks van Heksrivier below for comparison:
Sometimes when I need to do something for a commission, I'm scared to draw. And never happy with the result.
